Introduction

My objective is to give a sense of place and perspective with regard to evaluation as a disciplined. I portray evaluation as a delicate but robust coalition that is comprised of part-time, but dedicated, practitioners. I present an explanation for what binds the coalition and alternate paths along which it may develop. My effort consists of three parts: the diverse nature of evaluation, the mechanism of cohesiveness and implications for the future.
